Koštana Banović (b. 1960, Sarajevo) is an artist working in drawing, performance, video, and film. Her work centers around ritual as a dynamic element—functioning as choreography, a reflection of historical memory, and as transformative action that activates objects, materials, and aesthetics while dissolving traditional boundaries. Banović has exhibited extensively across international platforms and participated in cultural-exchange residencies, conducting sustained artistic research in Senegal, Brazil, and throughout the former Yugoslavia. Her works are held in prominent contemporary art collections, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Her films have received numerous awards and have been screened at festivals such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival (IDFF). For over a decade, Banović taught at the University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU) in the Fine Arts department. She is the founder and artistic director of KAMEN Artist Residency in Bosnia and Herzegovina, director of the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival (ENFF) in The Hague, and film producer for artTrace in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
